The right way to cancel YouTube Premium depends on where you started the membership. Check the billing account first, then cancel from YouTube, Apple, or Google Play. Deleting the YouTube app does not stop recurring billing.
Cancel from the YouTube membership page
- Open YouTube paid memberships and sign in.
- Select Manage membership for YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium.
- Choose Deactivate, then select Continue to cancel.
- Choose a reason if requested and confirm Cancel.
You should see the date your benefits end. Keep that confirmation for your records.
Cancel a YouTube Premium free trial
Use the same membership page before the trial end date. Canceling early usually prevents the first paid renewal, but check the confirmation screen for the exact end date. A reminder in your calendar is useful even after you cancel because it confirms when access changes.
If Apple or Google Play bills you
When YouTube shows Apple or Google as the biller, use the store account that owns the subscription.
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → YouTube Premium → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play → profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → YouTube Premium → Cancel.
If you cannot find the membership, check that you are signed in to the account that received the original receipt. A second Google or Apple account is a common reason a subscription appears to be missing.
What happens after cancellation?
You normally keep Premium benefits until the end of the current billing period. Your Google account, YouTube channel, playlists, and watch history are not deleted by canceling Premium.
